NatureServe Species Occurrence Schemas Version 1.0

Description:

The NatureServe Species Occurrence Schemas are documents that describe, in XML, species occurrence-level attributes reflected in NatureServe's biodiversity data model. The comprehensive species occurrence schema includes species occurrence data managed at the global (i.e., range-wide) level by NatureServe. The summary species occurrence schema includes species occurrence data managed at the subnational (i.e., state or provincial) level by the NatureServe network. These schemas apply to plant and animal species occurrences, and are not intended to apply to occurrence data on ecological units managed by NatureServe or its network. Species-level data as managed by NatureServe and the network are described in two separate schemas.

Detailed Documents:
Associated Schemas:
CompleteSpeciesOccurrenceSchema.xsd
This is the root of the XML schema hierarchy at the global level. All of the rest of the schemas are included from this file and, with the exception of the summary species occurrence schema, represent sub-elements below "speciesOccurrence". If you would like to learn more about the species occurrence schemas start here.
SummarySpeciesOccurrenceSchema.xsd
This is "speciesOccurrence" at the subnational level.
DistributionTypesSchema.xsd
These are the sub-elements that deal with the tabular location data associated with an element, such as nations and provinces/states where this species is known to exist.
NatureServeBasicTypes.xsd
These are the subtypes that are used to compose the other schema documents. These are abstract types that do not always have a corresponding entity.
