Get Ecological Systems (coming soon)

The Get Ecological Systems service provides access to comprehensive data on the classification, related names, global conservation status, distribution, environmental setting, vegetation structure, dynamic processes and reference information for all ecological systems records maintained by NatureServe in the United States and Canada, as available on NatureServe Explorer.

Examples of User Stories

  • "US Department of Agriculture Forest Service LANDFIRE team can use NatureServe Explorer to search for ecological systems occurring in selected western map zones and import the results into a custom Access database in order to extract both descriptive and quantitative information for each system."
  • "The Nature Conservancy fire initiative staff can generate a report of all NatureServe ecological systems within a specified map zone to support vegetation mapping and modeling workshops for every map zone in the coterminous US. The workshop participants, vegetation ecologists from a variety of agencies and non-profits, will receive a PDF format report containing the descriptions of the ecological systems that occur in the map zone, which will form the base units for successional modeling."
