Species Presence Indicator (coming soon)

The Species Presence Indicator service provides the ability to determine if a given species exists within an associated geographic area. Required input for this service is a spatially represented area. The species of interest may be indicated with one or more species unique identifiers or by providing a USESA/COSEWIC or NatureServe conservation status. The service response is a True or Unknown indicator for whether the input species are known to occur in the given area. The Species Presence Indicator service is designed to answer general questions such as "Are there any species of concern in this area"? without having to provide specific location details.

Examples of User Stories

  • "DOT office of pipeline safety operators will be able to select an area around a pipeline where a break or defect is found to determine if there are species of concern in that area."
  • "NOAA oil spill response team will have immediate access to the most up to date information on the presence of species in the vicinity of the spill to ensure those sites are prioritized for clean-up/protection and are not further damaged during emergency response/clean-up efforts."
